Reisverslag Week 7,8&9
23 oktober 2015
After 3 weeks I finally have time to write again and so much has happened in these weeks!
Lets just start were we left off in the weekend when I last wrote. We went to Williamsburg, which is where all the hipsters are and where you have the best view of the city (see my FaceBook page for pictures!). It was such a fun place and we just roamed around the streets for hours to see all the cool stuff they have there. And we also went to another cool house party that weekend!
The next weekend we went to Coney Island with all the Dutch girls. That is an island where they have an amusement park that is connected to a beach. So if you look to your left you'll see all the cool rides, and to your right you will see a beautiful sea. Of course we had to go in all the cool rides, and some of them were really scary. (As Esmée would say: OH MY GOD, OH MY GOOOOOD XD). Oh and we were in so much pain from the workout we did that Friday. The class is called HIIT (high intensity interval training) and you basically do all these really intense exercises and then have 30 seconds rests in between. I don't think my muscles have ever been that sore in my life.
However, the best part about the last 3 weeks was that my parents came to visit last weekend! They came to NY on Thursday and then they came to Hofstra the next day. I gave them a full tour around campus, and they loved it. I totally understand, as the campus is so beautiful now with the leaves on all the trees turning red. Of course we had to go to the Hofstra store where they both bought some Hofstra gear to wear and walk around like real, proud American parents;). (I also bought a sweater, so now I'm officially a Hofstra student). In the evening we went to the city together where we had the best Indian food ever. We went shopping for a bit and then slept in their hotel.
The next day we went to Williamsburg, and some other places in Brooklyn. It was so good to see my parents again after 2 months! So funny how they have not changed at all whilst my life has changed so much here.
On Sunday studied the whole day, because I had midterms that week and I wanted to go to the city with my parents on Monday.
So on Monday morning I went to the city again. I forgot it was rush hour, but I found out soon enough, since the subway was literally so packed with people you couldn't even get in or move. However, I still made it to my parents and we went to see the iceskating rink at Rockefeller Center, the public library (which was pretty awesome), the Flatiron building (an extremely flat building), the New Balance store and we had lunch in Chinatown. Then we had to say goodbye, however I'll see them again at Christmas so that's okay;)
Then this week I had my midterms. (I already had my Consumer Behavior midterm the week before, where the teacher had literally told us every multiple choice question that was going to be on the exam and you could bring a double sided cheat sheet with you. So needless to say I got an A for that. There were still people who didn't do that well though... 'Murica). I had a Supply Chain management, HRM and a Chinese test that week so I studied quite a lot (for American standards). SCM went pretty well, but I was a bit worried about HRM as the teacher had told us her exams were really difficult. However, that turned out to be not that bad, and I think I'll get a good grade for that as well. For Chinese I am really proud of myself, since I know that languages aren't my strongest suit, but I still managed to get a 100% on my test twice now! I just try to study my characters regularly, and so far that seems to work. So my conclusion is that University here in America, well the normal universities that are not like Ivy League or something, are quite easy compared to the Netherlands. (I don't mind though, since I came here to explore New York and the American culture as well).
Oh I also had my first time-swim, where you had to swim for 12 minutes straight. (and then next time they will add a few minutes, so our final exam will be 60 minutes). I managed to swim 18 laps, so that was quite good. I see that I'm improving already, which is nice.
I feel like there is so much more that I did these weeks, but I'll stop writing now, before it becomes too long of a story. I'm going to the HIIT class today again and probably just chill and enjoy the weekend with my friends afterwards.

Siejoe in december,
